IRENE MAFFEI

 

IRENE MAFFEI is an award winning director and producer. Born in Florence, Italy, in 1983, she received her high school diploma at the International Languages Lyceum Machiavelli-Capponi, with 100/100 cum laude. She went to Bologna University, where she graduated in Film Studies at DAMS with 110/110 cum laude in 2006.

During her education years, she started to work on set as an assistant, until she began directing her own short films and music videos. In 2003 she wrote, directed and produced the short film Behind, Bologna, which was selected by the festivals Quargnento (Al), and Cortovisione, Lecce, Italy 2004; wrote and directed the music video Save me (2005) for the band Eldritch, edit by Limb Music, which broadcast by MTV, All Music, and Rock TV, and adjudged the best music video at the Orvieto Festival 2006, Italy; wrote and directed the short film La seconde peau, Paris; and directed the music video Sospeso, for the band Koinè, Bologna.

In 2006 she wrote and directed the short film Tre, which won the Best International Women Interest film prize at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival 2007, Best Thriller-noir at the festival Il corto...in genere 2006, Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy. Tre also enjoyed two important nominations: finalist at the TV competition La 25a ora 2006, broadcast by the Italian TV channel La7, and at the Mitreo International Film Festival(Italy 2006). The film also won a coveted place on the official selection at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival 2006, USA.

Her output in 2008 as director include, music video The Show for Second Chance, XRG Films, London; Book trailer Dolseur, XRG Films, London; Short film Tomorrow kills, produced by Nadine Salem, London;  Short film Good Morning, XRG Films, London; Music video America B for Jazzsteppa, XRG Films, London.

After university, Irene Maffei moved to Rome, where she worked in the production or direction departments for some important TV Productions (some of these for the Italian major TV Channel RAIDUE). She also spent three months in Los Angeles, where she worked in two feature films as production assistant and script supervisor. She moved to London in 2007, where, after a professional training in production company Chrome Productions, she works as music video director or first assistant director.
